The Simpsons Makes Its Debut in Rocket League: But It's Not the Car Fans Are Hoping For

It was previously announced that the iconic animated series was collaborating with Epic Games' battle royale, but that's not the only place where enthusiasts can experience the world of Springfield. The beloved show is coming over to the popular soccer-driving hybrid, bringing along an in-game car skin that will also be compatible in the Fortnite universe. That said, whether players will actually want to equip it is a different matter, as there's only one Simpsons vehicle the community is eager to drive, and this new offering isn't that one.

What Fans Really Want

While many gamers would absolutely enjoy to face off behind the wheel of The Homer—the notoriously impractical automobile the patriarch designed himself in the classic episode "the one where he meets Herb"—regrettably, that isn't what players are receiving. Not even getting the massive SUV, the heavy-duty vehicle showcased in the tenth season. Rather, fans are getting the family's standard beat-up four-door, which has been in the family since 1989. Though this particular car has seen better days, it stands as an recognizable symbol of the show. And for players who analyze Rocket League vehicle dimensions, the Simpson family car uses the same hitbox as the Dominus.

More Than Just a Car

And it's not the only customization item from the series coming to Rocket League. This limited-time event will additionally feature a series of challenges to earn additional goodies, all of which are Simpsons-themed. According to a press release, the missions will task participants to "get as many centers and clears as there are the show's years on air, collect boost pickups as if your navigation is set to The Simpsons’ residence, and travel a specific distance worthy of acquiring the ideal pastries!"

While the full lineup of earnable items isn't yet disclosed, here is what has been confirmed so far:

  • Blinky antenna topper
  • Homer's hedge-themed banner
  • Waste wheels
  • 20,000 experience points for each challenge

If the key art is a reliable guide, it seems players will also get rims featuring a TV showing The Simpsons' title sequence, Kang and Kodos topper, a frosted doughnut trail, and rocket boosts themed to burning tires and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Event Timing and Fortnite Connection

The Rocket League collaboration lines up with the extensive The Simpsons invasion of Fortnite, which includes a brand-new playable area of the fictional town, in addition to a 30-day seasonal progression system. This special Rocket League and Simpsons celebration begins on November 1st and ends on Nov. 17.
