The athlete recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.

The Olympic champion finished her 800m campaign with a win at the all-female Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic champion, who earned third place at the global championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment out there is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive event filled the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the winners with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
